Southwestern Stencils

Southwestern Stencils and designs often incorporate vivid colors and leave one feeling a kinship with the desert environments of the Southwest.

Picture a log cabin with a huge stone fireplace, some big cushy chairs and an oversize window with a mountain view. What other images can you image seeing there?

There are so many ways to use these Southwestern stencils. In decorating a room you could use them as a border along the ceiling or just on top of a chair moulding. Sometimes I like to paint a single image in a particular spot like on top of the light switch or on either side of a mirror or window. You could include a couple of painted coyotes, cactus or horned skulls within a collage of framed art.

If you intend to use your Southwestern stencils with paint I would like to suggest that after you print these free stencils, cover the top of the paper with a clear protective coating like clear shelf liner before you cut out the openings. This way you can use your stencil again and again. I wipe my stencils down with a damp cloth after each use and store it in a book for the next time I need it.

Also, since this is a paper stencil, you can re-size it to fit your project area by enlarging or reducing on a copy machine.

Imagine creating a scene on a blank wall that gives you the feeling that the horses have just been put away and you are lounging in the desert watching the sun go down. This cactus and some of the others would make a great painting on your wall to give you just that feeling. Don't dismiss this idea because it's actually pretty easy with stencils. Of all the Southwestern stencils I think the horned skull is the most popular. I can imagine this image on a t shirt with a collection of words. You can make custom t shirts with this design and it's easy. You'll see how to paint stencils on fabric.

Hey, come to think of it, this stencil would look great on a pair of jeans or a jean jacket. I painted and Eagle Stencil this way and I think it would work great for Southwestern stencils.

The lizard stencil is a great design for adding in all the vibrant colors so popular in the Southwest. I love the deep rich oranges and turquoise colors. Can you imagine this guys painted as a wall border either along the ceiling of just above a chair moulding.
